The uwf AF reveals round and oval areas in the mid peripheral retina of decreased or hypo-AF. These zones represent dead RPE cells with corresponding loss of the overlying photoreceptors. Within the arcades, note a large annulus of increased or hyper-AF, suggesting that the RPE is sick and dying in this area. Hyper-AF suggests that the disorder is progressive and in this case likely predicts the eventual reduction of sensitivity of central visual fields.
