- Unusual retinal blood vessels can be due to various etiologies, ranging from common disorders such as vein occlusions to rare disorders such as arteriovenous malformations (AVMs).
- AVMs are isolated to the retina in about half of the reported cases. However, in the other half, the retinal AVMs are part of a syndrome which include similar abnormal blood vessels in the brain.
- This week’s case is about an asymptomatic adult who presented with profound vascular anomalies confined to one quadrant of one eye.
