History/Chief Complaint

  • 56 year old asymptomatic white male presents for evaluation of numerous unusual blood vessels in the superior temporal quadrant of the left eye.

Clinical Finding

  • BCVA: OD 20/20 and OS 20/20.
  • Fundus Exam:
Shows no abnormalities in the right eye and multiple vascular anomalies in the superior temporal quadrant of the fellow eye.
Small hemorrhages are also observed in the same quadrant as well as several sheathed blood vessels.
  • Fluorescein angiography (FA): Reveals delayed venous filling in the superior temporal quadrant.

OCT Image

  • The OCT through the macula of each eye is normal with an intact photoreceptor integrity line, PIL, (see page 15) which is consistent with the normal VA.
  • The OCT through the vascular malformations show retinal elevation in zones corresponding to the AVMs.
