Case 1: Quantel Aviso Ultrasound Biomicroscope 2013
Although the UWF image had the shape of a peripheral retinoschisis (which is present in at least 1% of the general population at this age), it appeared somewhat solid and not translucent as a retinoschisis generally does. The UBM image clearly confirms a solid lesion of the ciliary body. An immediate referral was made to David Abramson, MD, chief of ophthalmic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in NYC. The mass was confirmed by Dr. Abramson and colleagues to be a malignant melanoma of the ciliary body and far anterior choroid. Treatment with an iodine plaque (I-125) was performed shortly after the diagnosis.
