How does LifeMeter measure Carotenoid level? 1
Reflection Spectroscopy:
A single white light LED source is projected as a small light disk onto the non-dominant index fingertip
An optical window exists for the detection of the skin carotenoids in the 460 to 520 nm wavelength range. Measured in optical density units, this correlates directly with the carotenoid concentration in the measured tissue volume
The fingertip is in direct contact with a convex lens surface, which temporarily pushes the blood away from the measured tissue volume.
A laptop computer is used for light exposure control, acquisition, processing and display of the reflection spectra.
A skin carotenoid score (“reflection score”) is displayed on a scale from 0–800
A single reflection measurement takes 10 seconds.
