Instructor, Ophthalmic Oncology Service, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Dr. Canestraro is an Instructor at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Ophthalmic Oncology Service. She has experience in the diagnosis and non-surgical management of ocular disease, including ocular tumors. She also specializes in treating the ocular consequences of cancer and its treatments. She has written a number of chapters in a clinical optometry textbook, published multiple peer-reviewed papers, has presented multiple posters and spoken at the American Academy of Optometry National meetings.

She graduated from SUNY College of Optometry as part of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honors Society. She also received both the GP Lens Institute Clinical Excellence Award and the Dr. Louis Herrmann Memorial Award for Outstanding Compassion in Patient Care. From there, she continued her education with a residency in Ocular Disease at the SUNY College of Optometry. She began her professional career as Assistant Clinical Professor at SUNY Optometry and went on to become Assistant Director of Optometry at Woodhull Medical Center where she served as the student externship supervisor and resident coordinator for many years.
