Diabetic Retinopathy

  • Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness among the working class population in the US.1 Aggressive treatment of elevated blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol as well as timely diagnosis and treatment of CSME and proliferative retinopathy may delay the onset of blindness.2
  • Panoramic ophthalmoscopy with optomap® and SD OCT may aid in the detection of early retinopathy. Both are also helpful in advanced disease.
  • Click on “Next” to reveal the fundus of a young woman with advanced proliferative diabetic retinopathy emanating from the disc. Such advanced retinopathy is correlated with diabetic nephropathy3, a leading cause of death in diabetics.
