Comments and Follow-up

  • The Photoreceptor Integrity Line (PIL) as revealed by SD OCT easily documents Stargardt photoreceptor involvement in various retinal locations.6
  • SD OCT, such as in this case, can help detect a retinal nerve fiber layer/optic nerve disorder such as glaucoma, in a patient with an outer retinal degeneration such as Stargardt.

Our compliant patient has agreed to:
— repeat flash ERG’s to determine if there has been any progression over the last decade.
— mf ERGs for the first time.
— genetic testing with emphasis on the ABCA4 gene.
— fundus auto-fluorescence to compare results to SD OCT.6

Note that standard fluorescein angiography, useful in detecting a “dark” choroid in early or questionable cases, is not required in this case and has not been recommended to date.
