Case 3: Topcon 3D OCT Scan Comparison

Above is a SD OCT section from Case 3 and below is from a different patient with disc drusen. On B-scan ultrasound, disc drusen appear as hyperreflective spots on the optic disc. Since disc drusen are known to be made of solid material, it is often thought they would appear as hyperreflectlve zones on SD OCT as they do with B-scan ultrasound. However, the disc druse below is hyporeflective on SD OCT. This raises the question, “Is the hyporeflective zone seen in Case 3 a fluid-filled space or solid hyporeflective material similar to disc drusen?” More about disc drusen in a future RR-stay tuned!
