Ribbon SDDs

Eyes with ribbon subtype have a 4.3 fold increased risk in developing GA²⁴

Photoreceptors are disrupted in areas surrounding ribbon SDDs as well as in the area of SDDs themselves²⁵

Dot SDDs

Eyes with dot subtype have a 2.5 fold increased risk of developing neovascular AMD²⁴

Photoreceptors seem to be disrupted only in the areas that have dot SDDs, leaving adjacent photoreceptors unaffected²⁵
