Note that the grey white cloudy swelling of the inner retina is not revealed in the AF image on the lower right. AF is due primarily to lipofuscin in the RPE. The inner retina appears virtually invisible on AF Images. However, the retinal vessels in the inner retina are prominent in the AF image because of the stark contrast of the “black” vessels and the glow of the underlying RPE.
