Case 4: Topcon 3D OCT Radial Scan Images

As shown in the previous case, hard exudates are seen as hyperreflective dots scattered throughout or near the outer plexiform layer in the retina. Note that the PIL underlying the exudates appears to be missing, however, this is most likely an artifact/shadow that is casted by the overlying hard exudates. This “shadow” can also be seen when an overlying blood vessel blocks light from being reflected from the deeper retinal layers.
