The GCC (which is composed of the RNFL, the ganglion cell layer and the inner plexiform layer) is represented by the “green donut” above and appears normal and equal in each eye. The table above reveals only very minor differences between all GCC measurements. This suggests that the central field loss is reversible since the ganglion cells and corresponding axons and dendrites are intact. No treatment for LHON has yet been demonstrated to halt the predictable progression as revealed in the next case.
