Osseous Choristoma of the Choroid (Case 2)

An asymptomatic 32-year old male with visual acuity OD 20/20 and OS 20/20 presented for differential diagnosis of a substantial lesion OD. Fundus examination revealed a 5×5 disc diameter light colored zone below the retinal vessels and surrounding a normal appearing disc OD. The OCT scans demonstrate a normal appearing PIL/junction in all sections through the lesion. Both retina and choroid appear normal. The B-scan revealed a flat, plaque – like lesion at the level of the choroid that reflects sound even at low sensitivity levels (see next page). Diagnosis is a osseous choriostoma also known as osteoma; a congenital lesion that may progress and become associated with atrophy and/or choroidal neovascularization and scarring.
