History/Chief Complaint

  • A 17-year-old myopic female complained that even with her new glasses, her night vision was much worse than her day vision. Her medical history was unremarkable and had no history Of trauma in either eye. There was also no family history of any eye related disorders.

Clinical Findings

  • BCVA 20/25+ OD 20/25+ OS.
  • Fundus Exam: The retinal vessels, especially the arteries, were quite attenuated throughout in both eyes. Marked retinal pigment atrophy, hypertrophy and migration in the right and left eye was noted as well as subtle Bull’s eye pigmentation in the macula OU.

Optos® and Optos® Fluorescein Angiography

  • The optomapn images revealed attenuated retinal blood vessels and areas Of pigmentary clumping throughout the mid-periphery in both eyes.
  • The optomapn FA revealed window defects throughout the fundus in both eyes and a paucity Of retinal vessels beyond the arcades.

Fundus Autofluorescence

  • FAF revealed a “Bull’s eye” pattern in the macula and numerous small zones Of hypoautofluorescence throughout the fundus in both eyes.
