Case 2: Optos® Fluorescein Angiography Sickle Cell Retinopathy Another case of sickle cell retinopathy imaged with Optos® FA is demonstrated above. Note the similar zones of capillary avascularity (red arrows) and "sea fan" (red circle) to Case 1. Neovascularization occurs at the border of perfused and non-perfused retina.

Differential Diagnosis?  Proliferative Sickle Cell Retinopathy (PSR) OD>OS Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy PDR: (typically mid-peripheral and posterior pole, has to be DM (+)) BRVO/CRVO: (no signs of it, no associated systemic diseases, young patient) ROP: (patient is a normal term baby) Familial Exudative Vitreoretinopathy: (no vitreoretinal traction and no family history) Coat's

Case 1: Optomap® Color Composite and Fluorescein Angiography Image Comparisons of Right Eye Leakage in the FA images are better visualized when early and late stage images are compared.

Optos® FA revealed multiple areas of capillary avascularity (red arrows) and a zone of surface neovascularization in a pattern which is often referred to as a "sea fan". Leakage from the "sea fan" is more apparent in later stage FA images. Also note the telangiectatic vasculature in the temporal periphery.

Case 1: Optomap® Fundus Image Comparisons of Left Eye If untreated, late stage PSR can lead to vitreoretinal traction and eventually tractional retinal detachment and/or vitreal hemorrhage.

Case 1: Optomap® Fundus Image Comparisons Of Right Eye Multiple peripheral vascular occlusions lead to hypoxic events that trigger growth of new vessels in a "sea fan" pattern. Later stages result in fibrovascular proliferation.
